Rain Bands of a Hurricane
Rain bands have the appearance of spiraling bands of clouds which produce rain as well as wind. These bands are the first indication of an approaching storm and can stretch out from the eye wall for hundreds of miles (National Geographic, 2015a). The closer to the center of the storm, the more intense the wind and the rain will be. Sometimes these rain bands will produce tornadoes (Hurricanes: Science and Society, 2015b).
